I am a member of the Chandler Family Association, a group which has greatly help the various lines of Chandlers to reunite and get connected.

My Louisiana Chandler roots go back to Lincoln Parish. I remember going by my dad's "old home place" near Choudrant. He used to tell me about hunting along Stowe Creek and busting open watermelons. Back then, he said, there were creeks running full of water that have dried up today.

His dad was a barber, as I have been told. Back then the barter system got you a haircut. A ham, a dozen eggs or something else took the place of money. Everyone back then raised most of their own food and had a smoke house where they preserved their pork and beef.

My grandfather's parents were actually first cousins. Newton and Amanda Chandler had my grandfather, Elijah Charles.

Read this original story about life back in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana back in the old days. The story was written by my aunt, Elaine Chandler Boyd and printed on the back of the order of service at her funeral.
